General Motorway Revs

Hey there forgot to post this yesterday but I’m going on a trip to Burmouth university about 3 hours from north London. Just about to start all my car checks,

Water , Oil , Tiers pressure my tiessay 44PSI on them (removed anything I did not need in the car) What else have I missed.
What’s the best motorway revs for an 1.2 16v Sporting MK2 I think its around 3,000 thats about 65 MPH from the top of my head. Anyone tell me different as trying to save as much fuel as possible got 2 other people with me.

Careful, that 44 number is probably the max load rating and sounds too high. Check your manual or the tyre inflation decal on the car. 36/33 front/rear is more like it.
Revs are not nearly as important as gentle but brisk acceleration, keep a steady speed and anticipate the situations developing in front ( and behind) so as to avoid needing brakes as much as possible. Heating brakes is done with petrol at the end of the day. Get into top gear asap. Knocking 10 mph off your cruise speed can save 15% fuel.Windows closed helps a lot as well. Bon Voyage.

my mk2 manual says for a 1.2 16v with either
165/70/r14 81t or 185/60/r14 82h requires at standard load
2,0 Bar front 1.9 Bar Rear (29psi front - 27.5psi Rear)

And for a full load
2.2(31.9psi) Front and 2.1(30.5psi) Rear

Spare should be set to 2.8bar - 40.6psi

Sporting it says something different
Sporting on 185/60/r14 82h or 185/55/r15 81v
You want for normal use

2.2 Bar front - 2.1bar rear

Loaded up its

2.4bar front 2.3 bar rear

Spare again 2.8bar

cheers yea just looked again and it said MAX well im off to put some petrol in and put presure of my tiers. Will check the topic when im at a servicie station. To see if anymore advice comes in thanks again. The open road awaits!

Keep it smooth and always know what's going on behind so you can overtake without slowing down or cutting anyone up. Stay out of the fast lane unless overtaking.

Should have added that posh petrol is less £s per mile than vanilla unleaded as the engine runs more efficiently.

plus chance for it to give the engine a good clean out as the engine would be up to temperature

if i dont know the exact psi of tyres, ill normally go for a "safe" 30psi all round. its around the average pressure and not too high/low to cause much of an issue.

I agree with Samurai and usually go with around 30-32PSI, you don't really need to 'do' anything for your journey, I did Grimsby-Eastbourne-Grimsby non stop not long back and only did the basic checks before setting off.
Did between 70 and 90 MPH not sure on MPG but it cost around £100 for the whole journey, not bad for a 600 mile round trip although at 65 MPH I would of got 55 MPG.
Why are you driving by the revs, is your speedo broken?

No my speedo isnot broken lol dont no just rember keeping the revs at same level reguardless of speed was a good thing. If i do 3,000 rev up hill ill do around 65 down hill ill do around 70 which my plan to drive on low revs was ruined as i was running late so i did 80 all the way and did 60 on the way back. Put a full tank this morning I got a just over 1/4 left no idear how much MPG i was doing. But thanks everyone O yea and i put my tiers on 32 PSI all round. was no problems odd bit of traffic but i am exahusted.

Revs & speed are locked anyway so it doesnt really matter which dial you watch (other than speed limits).

Sad Nav is handy but put some stickers on the rev counter window so you know where your speeds are.
