just had a random thought over modding the car keys, obviously we all like to sped time/cash on modding the car, but has anyone thought on what can be done to the car keys? ive seen a few pics of people painting them, but what are peoples views on this and are they any other things we can do to them to add to the personal touch of our motors and accessories?

i cant think of much but paint them tbh

painted mine white mate,was going to do a stripe aswell but forgot,depends what you want to do really

could cover it in carbon fiber vinyl,paint it,stickbomb it

anything long lasting and resilient would be a bonus really as they spend a lot of time in pockets. not sure vinyl would work, least not to the point it looks like thats how it should be cos of the shape. im just thinking of random ideas on what to do on a budget.

in that case i would say paint it and maybe get a dragon vinyl to stick on it

know any decent spray paints that dont chip easily? and what colour.... hmmmm.....

if you use vinyal then cant u just spray some clear laquer over it? shud help protect it same with paint & sticker bombing it

its not so much how well the vinyl would last, but more the issue of the shape of the key and seeing the joins etc. unless done by a pro, i cant see it looking too great. i may fill the badge hole and try a smooth look with they key, maybe red to match the ELX interior of my car... any one know of a good filler to use on it?

is it a hole or just an indent ? nice idea about the red

Chuck it for a credit card key and button starter.

its just a recess for the lil emblem to sit in iirc.

that is sooo expensive, you can get some carbon fibre wrap for much cheaper then that and you get alot more aswell

Thats an old concept and is available as standard on the Camaro (new model) only downside to it as shown on TopGear is that someone can jump in and drive it until its out of range when it'll shut down and just be stuck in the middle of the road etc.

You say wrong type of key... But it wouldn't be that hard to swap the innards over, and getting the blank cut, surely?

Or is there way more to it than that?

aint worth the effort, spesh when it becomes costly to get another standard keycoded key done if i bodge it.

No surprise in a plastic car. The newer systems know where the card is so wont let that happen.
I'm sure something could be put together for way less using parts from RS Components ebay etc and some lateral thinking.
