ive got the air bag warning light on my 04 punto, ive had it reset 3 times now with no obvious problem, just needs a reset each time, but this is getting expensive, in the handbook it says that if the warning light is illuminated there should be a message on the dash to say take it to a dealer but there is no message just the warning light, anyone got any ideas what i should do. thanks.

Means there is a fault - as to whats the fault is
the fault code thats been cleared will tell you whats going on

By the fact the light is reactivating, it means there is a fault
Could be anything from a Poor connection - Low Battery - Shorting

Get the fault code read - and report back

Also the Fiat Ecu Scan )free Version) (with a £10er-ish Cable, could work out cheaper plus you have a handy tool

thanks ziggy, ill look into getting the ecu scan + cable
i had a problem with the battery a few weeks ago, my son left the radio in overnight and it was flat as a fart in the morning, had to get the rac to start it but he said the battery was probably ok, ill check that as well.

My battery was ok at home but would fail when I'm in Wales parked on a steep hill. When it did finally let go it was so flat the car couldn't even be bump started down that 1:3 hill!!!. It had an internal sort (or two). I fitted a big Bosch silver and all has been fine ever since.

Buddy - I had the same fault. It turned out to be a dodgy connection. They are well known for having connection problems under the passanger seat (has someone moved the seat recently and caught the loom) and also behind the passanger glove box. Might be worth a look.

Fiat ecuscan software worked for me with Vag com lead and the red adaptor lead.

Hi - Can you help me - without using your coloured adapters on your VAG COM lead, what can you monitor? Can you get engine codes, real time info, ecu info etc?
I don't know if i should get the VAG COM lead or the ELM327? The ELM seems quite a bit more expensive.
I'd like to see what I can monitor without the 3 coloured adapter plugs first.
Cheers,
Si

ok calm down, no need to bump every airbag thread and post the same thing. keep to your original thread and post on it when the light comes back, or if it hasnt come back after 6 months post to tell us that :)

I wanted to make a post with a link but was unable to without having made 5 posts. So call it a way to cheat the system if you like. Sorry you are so upset.

Alot of people do it tho

Fiat Ecu scan will work with a Suitable KKL / Vagcom cable
plug - get fault code - Fiat ecu scan will tell you what that code is
Ie passenger / door / Shorting / No signal etc

Here's how to DIY code reading:
https://www.fiatforum.com/punto-gui...eset-ecu-airbag-errors-mk2-tenner-laptop.html

A K-line VAG-COM KKL lead will suffice for reading airbag ECU (may need a minor modification - all in the guide). The free version of FiatECUScan software works for the simpler K-line ECUs (engine, airbags, etc.)

The more expensive leads based on ELM chip include ability to connect to the CanBUS (dash, power steering, etc.) but you'd need more exotic software to use that.

ok guys, a quick update on the long running saga of my airbag warning light.
ive had an auto electrician take a look at it again, now he cant remove the warning light at all, so he reckons the air bag control unit is knackered, this is located in the footwell drivers side, fiat want 300-400 for a new unit and the problem is they have to configure the new unit so i imagine this could be expensive also, so im not sure on my next move, i may try and get one from a scrapyard or ebay, im a tad reluctant to fork out around 500 but might have no choice if i want to keep the car as from next year it will be a fail on the mot for an airbag not to wok properly. thanks for all the helpful comments on this thread.

What checks have been done?
Has the glovebox cable been checked out and what fault codes are showing on the body computer?

im pretty sure he didnt check the glove box cable, the diagnostic machine showed the voltage supply was ok not sure what else though, he left me the slip of printed paper from the m/c but it doesnt really say much
it say,s
total codes 002

code001

02 control unit Intermitt
voltage supply ent

code 002

01 control unit Intermitt
ent

once he had phoned fiat he said there was nothing he could do and just left me the slip of paper and went, at least he didnt charge for a call out.

giorgio2 these boxes behind the console do go faulty, make sure battery disconnected and its 3 10 mm nuts and the silly pull to release loom
look at the number on the box and compare with whats available on ebay
i got my last one for £15 and would change this with the codes you have been given rather than thumbling with steering squibs or passenger airbag switches
