Hi

Need to remove knob on top of gearstick because we need to get to switch underneath the gear stick pad (because the switch needs replacing).

Can anyone please tell me how to remove the knob from top of gearstick?

Please note that this is a sporting speedgear automatic (ie with speedbox +/- controls on gear selector) and it's all finished off with chrome fascia and chrome gear stick knob as standard, so it's not the same as a standard Mk 2 gear stick knob that can just be sawn off. I don't want to risk damaging anything so any ideas greatly appreciated :worship:

you have to flip off the chrone ring, then it comes off. are you sure you need new switch and not just to clean the earth on the rear light?

:worship::worship: Thanks Dave, I think you might have a good point there about cleaning the earth on the rear light, I noticed another post about that after I'd posted mine and wondered if that might do the trick. Thanks ever so much for the diagram, at least I know how to do it now should it need to be removed. Keep up the good work! (y)

Hiya, thanks (y) :worship::worship:

No it wasn't like that, it's more about it taking ages to engage into drive from reverse. We had the whole fascia off recently (yep, you guessed: to replace heater switch which broke when we had snow for a month :cry:) and when we played around with the gear selector it went back to working fine but as soon as the fascia went back on it started playing up again. It's fine when it engages into the other gears and otherwise the car is runinng fine, love it!

Going to take Dave's :worship: advice (above) and check the fuse etc first though and then keep an open mind. :)

Hi, Sorry to have to post this one again, but we have tried getting the knob off as per Dave's helpful diagram (above) and it won't come off....the ring just spins around and around and the knob won't lift off at all, as if it's totally jammed on. Any ideas? Any particular tool to use? Don't want to force it too much in case we damage it. :bang:
Any advice greatly appreciated as this has become an urgent job now :cry:
