Hello everyone! I am new to this site. I have recently bought a 60hp Punto, but I have already got a problem with it. We took it too the local garage and they said there is oil leaking onto the exhaust. We chose not to let them fix it as it will be far too expensive. My brothers no quite a bit about cars but neither have ever owned a Punto:rolleyes:. Also the car seems to be over heating far to fast. I ran the car on my drive for 5 minutes stationary and the temperature gauge shot up to red after 5 minutes.

Also when I start the engine usually when it is cold a loud squealing is made for a few seconds until I rev the engine. Think this is the cam belt needing tightening. But no entirely sure?

All I am asking is has anyone ever had this kind of trouble and what was the problem?

Thanks in advance

Barbara

the loud squeeling noise will no doubt be alternator belt needs tighening

Yea the squealing is the Auxillary belt Slipping

As for the Oil Dripping

either the HG has gone - and oil is leaking out the engine quicker then it should
the Rocker Cover is known to leak - you can replace and they leak again, as long as it isn't too bad it'll be fine

The thermostat is stuck Shut! - But if its overheated badly Probably now needs a HG too :(
Or the Overheating is due to the cooling system not been bled properly, and as a result it's not getting water around correctly
