Hello wondering if anybody could help me. I went to get in the car there and start it and it wont start, lights and all work fine but when I try to start it theres nothing. No clicks or anything no dimming lights and wont jump start.

Only thing it is doin is when i turn the key to start it and leave it turned the fuse box under the bonnet is making a noise and one of the relays is rattling. Swapped the relay with another of the same and it is still doing it in that position.

Thanks in advance,
Craig

Your lights are Bright and dont dim when Trying to start

thats because the power isn't been used by the starter motor at all - so the lights have the power to themselves

Anyway
i'd give the connections to the Starter Motor itself a Check/wiggle
And check the Starters fuse - might have popped

Tried to bump start it today wouldn't work then the car was rolling back and I tried it and it grunted, kept trying and its fine now. Think the starter must have been jammed so going to get it all checked over tomorrow to make sure.

Thanks for the reply though mate.

There was a very quiet noise, like a buzzing noise. I'm talking very quiet though.

Was only bump starting it to see if it worked so I could drive to the garage tomorrow. Will be taking it up tomorrow to get checked over and make sure everythings okay.

Buzzing usually is fairly loud - as the starter motor Turns

If it was buzzing quietly
motor is most likely Dead - and the Solernoied which Puts the Starter motor on the flywheel is going to be dead most likely too :(

If it bump starts means the Motor just aint doing it no more :(

Has the car been stood for a long while?
did the engine seem to take a while to actually start the car (ie used to turn over alot?)

No its driven every day mate, and starts no bother.
Its starting fine now, just get in and it goes. Kinda confusing that it wasn't working now it is lol

Sorry to dig up a 6-month old thread, but I have exactly the same problem and wondering if you ever got to the bottom of it scottishpunto? I've yet to try bump starting it. (Fiat Punto Mia 1.2 Y-Reg)

Tried rocking it but still nothing.

Bump started easily. Drove it up to the garage. Tried it again after parking it but it was dead again.

Garaged fixed it this morning - replaced the starter motor. Total bill ~£120.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Oh, the car sounds a bit, um gay now when it turns over, kinda funny.
