My Mk1 has been rattling like a good 'un over every bump since I got it. My mechanic looked at it last week and thought that it had cheap pads fitted that didn't fit right and was causing the rattle. I bought some Ferrodo pads which will be fitted anyway, but it turns out that the anti-rattle shim is missing. I've searched the parts websites and can't find anywhere that sells these. Does anyone know where I can get hold of one or does anyone have a part number.

It's the drivers side front brakes that are rattling. It's doing my head in!

i dont remember puntos having them. get some large punture repair patches cut to shape an use them, thats what ebc greens come with as standard

I've got ferodo on stock calipers - no shims needed - means the piston isn't keeping pressre on the brake pad
Obvs when braking it does - but not untill then

Give the Lips of the brake pads a little sand down - wack some copper grease on there and see how it behaves then

Dave, would they not melt and catch fire? My Punto has shims, there is one on the other side. Ziggy, maybe the new Ferrodo pads will solve the problem then.

i chaged my pads because they flagged up on the MOT as been not so meaty

New pads and i'm happy for a few more Mot's i hope!

No anti rattle shims. I think you'll find the problem elsewhere.
