righty, im not sure if you call my punto a mk3 or a mk2b
its a 2003 with the bigger front end,
anyway, ive thrashed the bugger to hell, got it as a part ex on i think 9k miles, taken it to 105k really killed it, now it still runs just about, but theres either a sensor gone like boost control or something.
ive been lookin at replacing the car
but ive just been thinkin, is it possible to fit the 150 diesel engine into my car? bare in mind im looking at £800 trade in, i need a few other bits to sort it, but if i can get a 1.9 150 engine in, and some other mods, less then the £6k im lookin at spending on a new car, it could be worth it?

should add, i took this in part ex on a 2002 impreza wrx, i planned on keepin it 2 months but its been nearly 3 years, ive not had any probs til now, and now i have many probs lol but i really have given it hell

diesels dont usually die lol

What is the actual problems you are recieving with the 1.3 engine

as for putting in a 1.9
it'll be expensive as insurance will go up - Its a modified car
you have to tell the DVLA
Your road tax Will probably go up even tho 1.9 are eco bugs like the 1.3's
And there are other things like the suspension - brakes - and Electronics to consider as well

hi, dont underestimate how hard ive driven this car pretty much every time for nearly 100k miles lol, its not uncommon for me to do 2000 miles in a week, and i have 6 cars... it was never designed to do that amount of miles in a shorter space of time.
never had a problem until recently so its been damn good really, i think ive washed it about 3 times total!
heres the problems, pretty much every time i push it a bit harder, it suddenly cuts back in power, like going into limp mode as if the turbo has stopped (thats just how it feels). pretty much everytime i get into 4th it does it now, if i turn the ignition off and back on quickly it resets, the lights go out and its ok for 5 mins.
3rd gear is getting harder and harder to get into.
remember this is a tiny diesel and you have to push it pretty hard to get anywhere.
pass window has stopped working, think its just a fuse
airbag lights on
wipers died again, its the linkage again, pass side doesnt move now but i bodged the drivers side for now,
drivers wing mirror has now left the building, aswell as the front lower grills due to a stupid deer, i live in the sticks so roadkill happens a lot!

obviously im not driving it much at the moment, insurance isnt really an issue for me. i might just trade it in on my next car, been offerd £500 to £1200 as it is. but if it was kinda plug and play to throw in a 1.9 multijet and gearbox, it could be handy to keep around as a run around.

The 1.9 is an older, heavier design so it will mess up the car's balance and will need the correct gearbox.

Get the codes scanned, check out the mechanicals and go from there. Its got to be cheaper to fix the 1.3 than transplant a 1.9.

If the 1.3 is mechanically sound it could be chipped.

i did have it scanned when it 1st started a while ago, and he said there wasnt any faults showing (must of been tho? he found faults for the abs and rear brakes being fitted wrong lol) , its since got a lot worse, im guessing it has to be a sensor like a boost control or something as it resets with the ignition.
i also dont know much about the fiat diesels, was just a idea about a swop but wont bother i dont think.
Im looking for a alfa GT at the moment so will save any hassle and just trade the punto in. ive recently got a little cinq sporting for running around localy so will get that how i want it. closest shops miles away through crap country lanes so a small fiat is perfect fun.

would still recomend this engine though, its been a tough nut to crack, mechanicly it seems fine still, gettin a little noisey. its turned into a bit of a mission to see just how much punishment it can take lol other then 3rd gear the rest seems fine

Ninja pirate - you will get far less for a Faulty car - then if you fixed it
It could Yes be a sensor - but only a fault code will tell you whats going on
If it was mate who did it on the side - ask and give beer tokens :)

and isn;t the 1.9 NA?

its trade in value is only £1500 anyway with 70k miles and good condition, its over 105k miles, not much service history and other then the faults its not in great shape, so id take the £800-£1200 trade in and not have to bother doing anything to it, i dont have a mate that can fix or test it, and the local garages are £60 per hour labour before they do anything lol
i think its time to let it go, unless i find a good deal on a new car without part exing it, then i will look at gettin some of it fixed and run it into the ground.

Chances are its the turbo wastegate system sticking so you dont get full boost. The ECU thinks its ok because the boost never gets too high.

Make sure the turbo wastegate/vanes move properly. It could be a cheap fix.
