Need More info

Milage / Age / Year of reg

As for 1 of 2 guesses straight off the head here
1 - Battery is dead - but enough to power Hazards and Door locks (weird as mine wouldnt work when battery was dead)
2 - the Earths have Rusted up enough to stop the whole thing working

The stereo has probably blown some fuses - get the Fuse Pick out - and the multimeter/good set of eyes - start checking them

as for the Stereo No-sense - I'm no good dont play with them much - but usually there on a circuit similar to the Courtsey light

as to why the Wire shorted in first place - did it snag and its got bare wire exposed?
