Hi first post so please be patient! My daughter bought a 2002 1.2 active manual. The car was ok except for the nearside driveshaft was knocking. So she bought a second hand one off ebay (she's a student) and I fitted it for her. Ever since then car won't go into 5th gear. I've tried disconnecting linkage and using levers on box but it just feels like it's a four speed!!!! It doesn't grind it just feels solid. Is there a chance the driveshaft is wrong? it looked the same and went in just fine. Have I allowed something to fall off inside box? Any help with this would be much appreciated.:bang:

i seriously dowt that a replacement Drive-shaft has done that
The DS connects onto the differential

have you tried finding 5th without the engine running

As far as i know - there never was a 4speed Punto

Its always been a 5speed or Now 6 with a sporting and 7with some Semi Automatics

Check the reverse gear collar hasn't jammed in 'up' position. Mine does and it becomes very difficult to select 5th when that happens.

The Collar Only Opens the Gate on Reverse

I can drive and Select all gears with the Gate Held up

I've had my Punto over a year now and it has always been consistent - when my reverse collar is up, 5th becomes very awkward (but not impossible) to select. Your experience may differ but it can happen, even if its only mine that does it!!

4th gearbox - in the car - its still the same

As a said the Lifter is for the Reverse Gear only - Has nothing todo with other gears

Op needs to try getting into 5 with no engine - as the clutch MAY be causing it to not be selectable - but i have a feeling it may be the linkages more

Does the Gearstick sit between 3rd and 4th or more 1st and 2nd

And reverse is selectable yes?

hi sorry Pizza came!!!
It doesn't matter wether engine running or not it still won't go in. all other gears are fine no crunching or stiffness. just won't have 5th. And I know it went in when we bought the car cause I did the test drive and went through all the gears to check!

There are 3 setups i've had with the 4 gearbox's ive had

A is all is straight
B is 5th is further out then Reverse
C is reverse is further out then 5th

It's going to one of the 3
