Ive just bought a 52 plate 1.2 8v Punto Active and need some advice please...:)

Checked the MOT history and the car has been clocked so I have no idea what the true mileage is (looking at the history ive averaged it to be around 116,000+) and there's a possibility the engine may have been changed aswel plus I have no service history so bascially I know sweet F all about this car

My dad suggested having the cam belt done just to be safe so can somone give me a rough price of how much it is to get done or even how easy it is to do it yourself?
Ive read somewhere that if its a non-interference engine nothing gets damaged if the cam belt snaps, is this true? and how can I tell if my engine is non-interference?

Is there anything else I can do or check on this car as im still slighty wary of driving it when I know so little about it??

Any help or advice would be really appreciated! :) (y)

not 100%, but the mk1 8v engine is non interference(y)
Timing belt is Easy job - so is HG really

The mk2 - i think uses the same engine..
so timing belt should be an easy job there too(y)

Yup, 8v is non interference.

Yup, Cam belt change is really easy, guides within the forum.

Do pump and tensioner at the same time.

Whilst a snapped belt will not ruin the engine, it will ruin your day if it goes in the fast lane of the motorway.

Cheers
