I have a fiat punto 1.2 8v 2001 which i have just changed the engine, i have removed the ecu and all of bits and placed them on the replacement engine. I have fitted the engine but it doesnt want to start.
I seem to have no spark when placing a spark plug against the cylinder block and turning it over. I do know that im getting fuel delivered to the engine but this bloody thing wont start!!!
Could connecting the HT leads in the wrong order cause it not to spark, if so could someone please tell me the order to connect the leads as im about to take a hammer to this car and I wont be Fixing It Again Tommorow!!!!
:confused::confused::confused:

All of the bits? Like the immobiliser transducer ring?

Check for fuel past the injectors. If fuel up to the injectors but not past them (and no spark) it'll be the TDC (or crank) sensor.

If i have used the ecu from the old engine will i still have to change the transducer ring, if so where is this located?
Thank you for your help.

No. Did you check for fuel past the injectors and spark?
Sorry to be so ignorant but what do u mean? Do you mean disconnecting the fuel rail to see if it squirts? I am getting one code that keeps returning p1325 knock sensor, but im sure that would stop it from starting.
Thanks for your help.:)

I've set the timing and it still dont start the pulley is definatly on correct, all timing marks are lined up. Some mentioned to me about setting the timing mark through the bell housing but all i can see is the pressure plate and no notch to line it up with.

Fuel past the injectors = wet plugs. The order of the leads is embossed on the coil pack carrier. The knock sensor is located in the middle of the block at the rear of the engine. Make sure it's connected up.

Check those.
There is fuel past the plugs, but would a knock sensor stop a car from starting?

Somebody please help me why haven't i got no spark???? I've set the timing and still cant get a spark please help or do i need to bring this engine back where i got it from??

Can someone tell me if im right or wrong? i've run out of ideas but i think it could be the key. Does a mk2 punto come with a red (master) key???

OP is using the original ECU so the system wont care about the a new engine.
Knock sensor may be fail safe so make sure its connected.
Cam or crank sensor might be faulty.
Press down the shraeder valve pin on the fuel injection rail. No pressure and/or no fuel coming out shows no fuel getting through.
Check the immobiliser antenna is connected under the steering column cover

Thanks mate i'll give that a try when i get back from work.

.........this happen'd on my mates mk1,
we ended up changing the coils,

mibbees try that?
get a set in the scrappy for about 20 quid.;)
Ive got two sets of everything from the previous engine and the new engine so ive tried changing over all bits and still getting no luck!!

What about the crank sensor? The ECU needs to see the engine is actually turning before it fires plugs and fuel..

..........also,
we had a starting problem,
it turned out to be the starter conflicting with the crankcase sensor,
the Pulse between the two was being interupted!
changed both - one at a time - and it sorted the problem.

If the code light switches off when turning key does that mean the car has no immobilizer problems???

Fiat Punto 1.2 8v

My Car would turn over but wouldn't start, Came out of work and wouldn't start for nearly 30mins so I opened my bonnet and had alook around and pushed the crankshaft sensor around and turned my key it started right away got it changed and has been fine ever since.

Hope This Helped

(Crankshaft sensor at the bottom left of the engine)
