Hey there

Basically, im looking to buy either abarth skirts or sporting skirts for my punto, but finding it hard to find the same colour skirts to match my metallic dark blue punto, just wondered, if i bought a pair that were either a diferrent colour, or new primed skirts, how hard would it to spray them myself? ive used paints from halfords before, and am familiar with the priming painting and laquering, but just wondered whats it like when theres alredy paint on them? and on something on a bigger scale.

Any suggestions would be very helpful

Cheers

Well you would have to sand the paint down, then primer etc etc but it sounds too me that youve described teseo blue which is now discontinued so you will have to try and get halfords/some paint mixing place to mix it which can be risky with it not matching.

you will have to get the colour custom mixed to account for fading.. theres a high chance you wont get a perfect match and to reduce that risk i wouldn't get the paint mixed at halfords. i've made that mistake before. best bet is to take it to a body shop or if you really do want to DIY take it to a proper paint shop and take your petrol flap in (y)

spraying over an existing colour is no different than spraying over bare/primed panels. just make sure u give the surface a good key and have it all smoothed of imperfections.

stringa... do bodyshops mix up rattle cans as well or only pots for spray guns?

hey, is your car the same colour as SamuraiDragon's car ?
i have a set of sporting skirts for sale but they are the medium bright blue.
i would fancy taking on to be spraying sideskirts myself, they are a big enough area for people to see, you want it done right so i would suggest a bodyshop if you getting them (y)

my car seems to be a different colour in each side, drivers side is a nice Gold Ingot, while passenger side is a faded shade of gold ingot...
notice this as after i cc'd mirrors, drivers side look ok, but passenger side is miles out...

as the sideskirts are below eye level, ud wouldnt notice colour difference as much

i tryed to spray my sideskirts myself gloss black did everything right but it didnt come out a perfect match but looked ok...but in end just payed a bodyshop lmao but sprayed yourself looks ok me dooor handles are still fine even after year i painted them match in fine :)

anyone got a rough idea of how much a body shop would charge?

how much would u want for them? some people are asking silly money for them, found some abarth ones for 50, which thought was quite good. cheera mate

£50 is a good price mate and tbh wouldnt pay much more...i payed £80 in a bidding war on ebay lol but seen sets go for £20 if your lucky

and to get them resprayed at a bodyshop would cost about £50-£60 mate

i got me fronmt bumper, rear bumper, bonnet and sideskirts all resprayed for £200 so £50 each and they were a brilliant colour match...he said to me that he knocks money of if you get more done though was wanting £250 at first got him down (y)

its not the right colour... its too dark. used that stuff on my spoiler and although its passable from some angles, it is a darker colour.

well i looked on a website and it had all the coulors for the mk2 and thats what it said there is a 597F coulor too, but unsure what the F is on the end if the chip paint i got coming isnt the same coulor then ill buy the F one too see the difference heres that website... http://www.puntopower.com/mk2.html

it is teseo blue.... but when u take into effect fading over the years etc... its gunna be darker than the true colour of the car.

T-cut paint renevator does the job nicely i used it on my car in the summer on the boot after debaging and the boot was darker then the rest of car so ended up doing the whole thing also good car polishers bring out the coulor well too (y)

to an extent, yes. ive still yet to get mine perfectly matched. and its been t-cutted/polished etc. metalic paints are always harder to get a perfect match due to the metallic flakes etc and primer colour also can affect the final finish. i used a light grey primer and its still darker.

I've had a very simular problem I've bin trying to colour code the black bumper trim on my stilo and the dark primer on my test piece had made the trim look far to dark I've bin testing for a while to.find the right match i think you just have to test until you find it feels
