Hello guys,
At the garage where I usually take my Punto 1.2 8v (2001 - make 2) they advised to replace the oil sump because heavily corroded and quoted 300 £ for the job... it seems a bit excessive but I am not an expert... browsing in the forum / web I see all parts (also including sealant / oil) can be around 100 £... besides it should take about 1.5 hours to do the job that is another 100 £ at a good rate of labour, so I would expect something around 200 £....
What could be an average / fair quotation by a skilled garage for such replacement? Are the 300 £ they quoted fair?
Many thanks for your kind advice

Hi and thanks for your reply! ..I already included the VAT in my numbers... this is a small town workshop, usually very in line to what I expect to pay, but this time I was very surprised... I will ask to other places to see how much they come up to... noone has got the money tree so if I can save something it helps!

theres nothing to replacing a sump on most cars and the punto is usually easy enough to work on so 1 hour should near see the job done.
a local scrap yard would sell you a desent sump from a motor that fried its head iam sure.
i would imagine the bill to be

sump 40
oil 20
labour 50
total 110

could be off here but i dont get why it would be more. thats all i would pay here anyway

sister in law just had her punto sump replaced 3 weeks ago. i got her sump new from shop4parts (gen fiat with sump plug), plus the sealant for i think £78. a local garage fitted for £80 plus vat

I expect an 'embuggerance' factor has been added to the bill.

Cutting the old sump off and removing all the old sealant is the biggest part of the job. I would also expect a new manifold gasket to be in the quote.

Cheers

Hello guys, many thanks for your comments.
I just want to let you know what happened next: I bought the sump + sealant in eBay and a friend (experienced) helped with the replacement...
Total cost parts and labour: 125 £ ....and most important: no leak!
Thanks again
