was at a dealers on their eper today and we discovered that on mk1 punto 16v engines made between 1997 and 1999 they have the same inlet cam as the 1.4 sporting engines, but they are the only 1.2 16v that do, so if you have a mk2 16v then you may be lucky and find cheap cam out of them mk1's to upgrade with, i forgot to check the exhaust cam sorry

they just slide out so not really much work really. and hydro or not higher lift is benificial... duration will be different aswell. but early 16v were 80bhp were they not? and mk2 werer 85....

That explains that, I knew the ones I put in my car looked different to the ones that were in it

Other way round, mk1s has 86bhp (some mk1 Sportings over here had 88bhp or so I'm told)

Other way round,
:yeahthat: now we know where the lost 5 bhp went, different cams

Dave, is it possible to fit the 1.4 16v MK2b Cams in the 1.2 16v engine for a slight increase in power/torque?

yes, i was at the dealers picking up a cam carrier gasket to do exactly this when we checked out the above.

Nothing to do with stricter emission regs and denser cats to meet them? ;)

The real question is, what difference is there between them and the 100hp cams? :D

punto has around 85 with a larger TB

brava/o has 82 with a smaller TB, around 5mm difference in them

you cant just slide the cam out you need to take the cam carrier off other wise the lifters will come up to far and stop the cam going back in

and dave wouldn't it just be easer to drop a 1.4 in rather then faffing around with a 1.2

Let's say I got the inlet cam from a mk1 1.2 16v, I just go to the mechanic and ask him to switch them with my original ones?
no need to remap or something more?
and about how much power gain are we talking about?
