Its for a remote central locking fob with the key attached to the fob but because i dont have the transponder i cant get my car to start. Any help at all would be great.

what year is your car?

must be a mk2/2b if it needs a id48

ifs its mk1 your key can be cloned into a new transponder cheap enough

Mk2 probably cost more than you'd want to pay to get it programmed.

Easy enough to remove the transponder from the existing key if you dont mind righting the key off.

You went to timpsons? as thats what they told me
Its a Megamos 48

Eitherway - i'd be looking at local Auto-electicians, as they will be able to reprogram new keys in for a charge :)

Would help if you do have your Key Code Card
As the Immboliser has to be wiped clean, and compeltly reset

Yeah i tried that and it worked im just a bit worried now that if i was to lose this key i would have to shell out a lot of money :(

ID 48 transponders are easy to get, the problem is you cant copy them, you need to take it to somewhere with the right equipment to load them into body computer.
Tony.

I pay £15 per year for key insurance. If my key gets lost I have up to £1500 worth of cover to replace the key and any other bits to get the car going again.

That sounds like a good idea and i may have to start doing that makes a lot of sense who is this cover with?

I use Carole Nash Insurance as I also have a bike. They aint the cheapest but the included extras (like breakdown) are worth the extra costs over some of the cheapo policies.
