I have a 51 reg Punto ElX it is my first car and I've managed to have it now for 3 years with some problems along the way that have mainly been repaired by my brother in law.
I am now getting to a point where I don't see the point in owning a car if I'm not going to bother learning something about it so have been trying to do little jobs on my own via the haynes manual.
What I need to know is how to bleed/drain the coolant system so that I can put some water & anti-freeze/coolant mix in before we get our next big freeze!
Now I've seen this done before by my brother in law and am pretty sure all I need do is dis-connect the pipe from the bottom of the coolant storage unit and simply let any liquid drain away while the engine is off & cool and then re-connect it and add the appropriate mixture/level of anti-freeze & coolant dependant on how cold I'm expecting it to get!
Now what I'm asking of the members here at Fiat forum is, have I understood this process correctly and is this basically the correct method of bleeding/draining the coolant system on a 51Reg fiat punto El-X?
Feedback would be much appreciated=]

Yes your draining technique is correct here is a guide to help you, I would add, becareful when using the top bleed screw on the pipes leading to the heater matrix as it's only plastic can break easily& use O.A.T antifreeze/coolant the red/pink stuff it's life is 5yrs, blue is normally only 2yrs. This is cheaper at motor factors than Halfords!.

Hi Mate,
Basically thats the logic, but there is few important details:
Before disconect lower hose, (onto almost cool engine- otherwise hot coolant can make bad injury) - first turn heating control knob into cabin on max hot (red). This will open heater radiator and will make to drain heater radiator from old coolant too. Keep heater control knob onto red till the end of operation, to enable new coolant to fill up heater radiator too.
During adding new coolant, bleed air trough both bleeding valves (one on rad, and one on heater hose near cabbin.
Also you should read this guide first:
