does anybody know why my inlet manifold would be full of oil?.also i think it has hydrulic locked would that destroy 2 out of 4 plugs?>if belt slipped all 4 would go is that right?.cheers

thats what i dont understand.the plastic inlet and throttle bdy are damp with oil .cylinders 1 and 2 are wet with oil.these are the plugs that got damaged?.3 and 4 are sooty but dry.cheers j

If the plugs are actually wet, then that means those cylinders aren't firing. Otherwise you would be pumping blue smoke from the exhaust. I presume thats not the case.

When you say 'plugs damaged', do you mean impact damage to the tips?

Cheers

plug 1 and 2 look like well have sorry had an impact with something, then 3 and 4 have not got any damage.i am gonna take the head off tomoz and inspect the damage, should be interesting

i say.

if your plugs are damaged its most likely that your cam belt has snapped/jumped a few teeth therefore your pistons have hit your valves therefore your valves have snapped off and been jingling about and hitting the plugs.

If you were lucky you might have gotten away with just one set of broken valves but if all the plugs are damaged then your a bit screwed!

Bit of advice from my experience here, find someone with a boroscope and look down the spark plug hole and into the cylinder to check the condition of the pistons. I spent all day taking the head off properly - only to find the pistons had holes in them from where the valves had hit.

Could save you time and effort!

As for the inlet being full of oil.....not too sure. It could be that compression from the cylinders is leaking through holes in the piston and into the crankcase, which in turn has caused a high pressure inside the crankcase and started pouring thick oil mist out of the breather and into the inlet manifold.

update.the engine is f***ed!.took head off top find that a valve on no 1 cyl had dropped and taken the head and piston out with it.this engine was supposedly rebuilt by a mechanic,so now gotta replace the engine!!!.not bad as only had car a month.(n) as for the mechanic hmm..in the words of harry hill.....
FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHTTTTTTT!!!!!!

ahh i was right then!

Yeah its not good when that happens. I had a Nissan Micra 16v, some fool had tried to bump start it by towing it behind a car with a snapped cam belt. Needless to say, the entire lot was foooked. Every valve snapped, every piston holy! ha!

What Mk of Punto is this on btw?
