This fell off my car yesterday as I reversed off my drive, because there are 3 cars on my drive i have to drop down over the kurb and this obviously got caught and fell off, anyone know what it is?

yeah, that's definitively part of your suspension spring coil.

You "could" fit just one spring but risk that side riding high so get a pair. The snag is the front may end up riding high due to the old springs having sagged over time.

If the dampers are old consider fitting coilovers all round as that gives 4 springs and 4 dampers with adjustable ride height.

Fine if the OP can afford it, but better with fresh standard equipment if the increase is too much.

When asked, my insurance weren't interested in the suspension but always check all mods from standard.
