Hi all, had front tyres fitted recently, noprobs, couple weeks later POWER STEERING fail while out driving,so pluged in my diag tool to pull the codes, i have read the link about column changes and if position sensor is shown then a column is needed full stop is the statement.
So i will keep this thread purely for my repair on this subject, report what i do and what happens etc.

2004 1.2 16v punto, pics:
1- ecu data 2-codes stored 3-calibration programmes carried out.

4-I have operating data graphs of the steering system showing working values, amps, volts, steering force through steering wheel, but will keep these to 1 side so as not to confuse to much.

Cleared the codes, carried out the calibrations and road tested: all well no faults or symptons yet, i take onboard the comments about battery and other ecu systems on the car such as abs, all system clear no faults, i will be carrying out a battery load drop test over the new year break to test the battery. Will report back after battery test and monitor the situation.

Any one wanting code reads (eng/abs/airbags/eps/dash/serv lights etc) drop us a pm, may be able to help.

Baz

Hello.

I have 2000 year Punto and electric steering wheel stops working when parking. Never while driving on highway.
Error codes C1005 C1006 are present.
Do I have to replace column or motor or anything?

Thanks.

as i understand it its the torque steer corrector in the downshaft but as ive said before i think these are just a glorified throttle pot but havent ever stripped a punto one down
guess i should see how it ticks
anyway amiran ive not had this problem for years but earlier this year i had a later punto that pulled to the left,i managed to sort this with fiatecuscan and the appropiate leads kkl and green i think so it could be digital really not sure
the motor usuall packs up and so causes no power steering

see no clear answer
can you get an early downshaft cheap? if so i would try swapping it over

Thank you s and b!

can you tell me more about downshaft?
what exactly it is?
I have 2000year, Punto II.

P.S. I have got FiatEcuScan. can it help me anyway?how can I do calibration and etc?

OK.

So, the problem may be in the downshaft?
I thought the reason was steering wheel ECU or something like that.
Am I wrong?

Yes there is a sensor in the downshaft to note the angle applied and the angle been turned by the steering coloumn (the magic fairy dust in there)

if the sensor fails (common) then the light comes on, or the sensor looses track of where it was, then a reset may sort it

The sensor isn't replaceable, so a new coloumn as we know atm is only fix

i think you need the full paid for programme
it should show you on the bottom left on your first screen and just go through the procedures:)

Have raplaced battery.
Bought new 62A "Gbatt" with 3 years guarantee.
No error codes any more, no problems with the steering wheel!

Hi, did you already fix the problem? And, if yes, in which way, thanks.

Hi,
I have got same problem with my 53 plate punto.
Power steering goes off, I read errors and I have got both c1005 & c1006, delete them and recalibrate angle sensor but problem appears again.
Car have got new battery and alternator is charging 14V even with main beam on.
Anything I should check before replacing steering angle sensor?
