so my mother bought 1999 lancia y (same engine as mk1 1.2 8v punto) and this car has some problems with idle and black smoke when revving.
idle is not so smooth as it should be and you can misfire sometimes. and when you rev the engine it smokes black like a chipped TDI
i also think that engine does not sound as it should.
cam-belt has been changed 1000 miles ago. is it possible that it wasn't aligned properly?

heh. timing was not ok i think. mechanic probably thought that he is to smart to use marking and arrows on cam-belt. and he decided that the correct way to put cam-belt on is in opposite directions of arrow.
so i aligned lines on the belt with notches on pulleys and i think that now idle smoother and throttle response is also crisper. I hope that this is not placebo effect

but black smoke is still here. so tomorrow i am going to try new lambda. is there anything else?

Lambda could be a good guess, but its still only a guess.
