I'm trying to fit an alba ICS162 MP3 stereo into a Fiat Punto (04). The wires appear to be the same as does the aerial adaptor. A red light (security deterrent) flashes implying it is connected but nothing happens.. anyone help?

The Fiat has a different type of wiring for the radio Head Unit.
On a typical HU/stereo, you have a red and an orange/yellow wire that both need to be connected to a power source (normally the battery and the ignition) in order for the HU to work. Fiat's loom, apart from the speaker wires and the earth, has only 1 live wire plus 2 CAN related wires.

You have 2 choices:
- either get the Autoleads PC2-36-4 harness adapter kit from a car audio shop or online (I found this supplier in google - there are others)
- Arm yourself with a multimeter, patience, some connectors and wire, then modify the harness yourself. I went this route.
