Re: Bush has gone again!! Third Time

Danny,
Its the one at the top, where the wheel attaches to the arm.

If they're anything like the pattern Ford Mondeo ones my colleague replaced (3 times in as many months before he gave up and replaced with a genuine complete arm), then I wouldn't bother. Fit a new (decent make/OEM) wishbone.
If its the bush that Danny arrowed in the above post, then its important to only torque up the bolt when the suspension is compressed... ie the vehicle is on the ground.

If the bolt is torqued up whilst the vehicle is still on the lift, then when its put on the ground, there will be more tension on the bush than there should be, and this COULD be why you have had 3 fail on you.

Re: Bush has gone again!! Third Time

ahh.
The last time had to take the wheel off and take the current bush off (took him 10-15mins) and slip it back into the metal surround it it was slipping out from and then put it back on, and put the wheel back on.

I dont know much about this sort of thing. :'(

Re: Bush has gone again!! Third Time

So we are talking about the anti roll bar end mounting?

A new mounting will have the metal and rubber bush as one, so if the mechanic was just pushing the knackered (loose) bush back in each time, it's no wonder it didn't last before it fell out again!

But I watched the second guy. And all he did was push it back into place.

I hope he didn't charge (for essentially doing nothing to cure the noise)?

That's 10 too much for a noise that will definately return in a few miles.

Re: Bush has gone again!! Third Time

Hi mate,

Which ever bush it is, if its popping out it MUST be replaced, otherwise it will just keep popping out. The ARB bushes are only about 12 So just fit a new one and you wont have to worry about it any more

Re: Bush has gone again!! Third Time

Hmm maybe not mate, It probably better to find anther car to take or get a taxi. Better to do that then get stuck half way in the middle of nowhere and have to wait for recovery. Thats what i would do anyway.

Although i suppose you know how often it pops out, and it should mostly be flat smooth motorway driving.

Re: Bush has gone again!! Third Time

Hi all,
I have attached photos to this post, hopefully you can tell me what diameter this bush is.

I went to 3 garages and all saying they want to install a new wishbone

As you can see on the image, the rubber bush has come out of the metal holder.
