As the title says, i would like to know if it is possible to change the mk2 16v coil to the 2 mk1 coils as i have a friends car with a suspect coil failure and i am being asked for 220euro for one here in Malta whilst i have 2 mk1 coils lying around which i am sure are not faulty!

Thanks for your replies in advance.

not sure, but in the UK a mk2 coil pack is £30, find someone you know and trust off the forum and send em the cash via paypal so its insured and get em to send you one it'll be a lot cheaper.

Hi guys, my problem is that plug no.3 is wet. changed the plugs and no.3 is wet without deposits and clean as if it has just been taken out of the box. I also tried two other ht leads but nothing changed.

will check resistance of coil, but could this be something mechanically wrong? car is punto mk2 1,2 16v.

The plugs are fired in pairs so one spark is wasted on the exhaust stroke. They pair at 1 & 4 and 2 & 3.

Sometimes and unusually new spark plugs can be faulty so put the suspect plug on the opposite cylinder pair. Then, to test the coil (using used plugs you know are good) swap the leads over on the pair with the fault. If the other cylinder goes dead its the coil. If it stays the same you have a cylinder problem.

Hi Whitesei, first of all i would like to apologise for not replying back and thanks for the hint. It looks like the coil is knackered as i put a plug in ht no.3 and ran the car and no sparks where noticed, even though coil was checked with an ohm meter and values are ok. Have to find a cheap enough coil to get to Malta.

Thanks for your help.
