Technical Wipers not stopping

My Punto has developed an intermittant problem with the Windscreen Wipers. On occasion, they do not stop working. That is, once turned on (even on intermittant wipe) they run continuously. When the wipers are switched off, they may continue to work for several minutes until they finally decide to stop. On one occasion I had to pull the fuse so that I could get home (after the rain had stopped).

Does anyone have any suggestions about where to look to fix this? I suspect that the Live_to_Park function on the wiper motor may be at fault.

That will be the relay up the swannie, sounds like the contacts are not breaking when they should. A replacement is the only solution, quite cheap though (a couple of quid)

I guess that checking the relay quick and easy to do, but how do I know which is the correct relay?

I think that it's one of the relays in the panel by the driver's footwell - do I need to pull each relay in turn to discover the right one? If I do this am I likely to cause other problems?

thrs a diagram on the panel near the switches i cnt remba which 1 it is but thr shud be a pic of the wiper 1 and simply find it on the board.

i had a similar problem before, i wire had frayed from the ECU so i had it short cicuited and the problem stopped it was with the back wiper it continuously worked on its own and had to have the fuse taken out evn when the car was off.

i think the right red relay does the wipers....i have an annoying clicking noise either from relay or wiper stork/motor which still cant solve. but from trying fix my annoyin noise i think the right red one is the one!

Open wiper motor & bend contacts back,clean off excess grease while your there.

thats to stop the wipers juddering across the screen (which i had to do once) but this is different its a clicking noise which shakes the wiper arms but it only doing it when the lights are on

i have same problem its to do with the fuse in the wiper stalk itself apparently, its buggered, and if th wipers stop working completely (once happend 2 me) thn ul have to get another stalk. its not the motor.

its v reg 99. mark 2 1.2 16v sporting. yeah if could look into that be awesome as its be driving me crazy iv run out of ideas! when lights are on it does it...then if full beam or fogs are on it gets faster. also the heater speed effects it. when lights are off it doesnt do it and when wipers are running it doesnt do it HELP!

i think you should get the stalk itself checked, th heater and lights affect the clicking, the stalk is one big part which has the lights connected too so if u get the part ul hav to connect the light connector too.
also i suggest u get a pro to do it cos the whole steering wheel has to come off n have to be careful u dnt set off the air bag and all its well long n takes round an hour or 2 to do.

mmmm doesnt sound good! so if i was to ignore it wil it just get worse and eventually wipers will stop working completely? so whats caused this to happen? any ideas how much these stalks cost?

brand new cost bout £110 second hand u can get for bout £30+, it jus gonna keep clickin it wnt stop thn when the fuse blows th wipers will stop completely n ul hav 2 get new stalk no matter what. its not really tht bigger job its jus a hassle n the clickings wel annoyin i jus try not 2 use wipers where possible n keep heater on 2 cos it dnt make no noise thr n play loud music 2 get rid of clickin noise lol
