it only happens on low speeds
and when it does the check engine light appears on the dashboard and if tried to turn it back on it judders and then turns off
.. in order to make it work i have to disconnect the battery for 1 min and then it starts fine

also the engine judders without turning off (and the rpm goes way low than it should be) in various occasions such as :
when the high speed fan kicks in
when turning steering wheel all the way left or right
sometimes when pressing breaks

I think your car would benefit from the basics first of all, a good service (assuming not known when last done) Oil, both filters, plugs and a check over of the HT leads.

I'm suspecting its running on less than 4 cylinders on certain occasions, thats what is bringing up the warning light on your dash (it knows when its not firing properly on all four via the phonic wheel on the end of the crank).

But for minimal money i'd definitely service your car especially given our crappy weather at the moment

i changed all the filters and spark plugs

Open the bonnet at night and check for any stray sparks.

I have a same problem. When I drive the punto mk2 2002. 1.2 8v the engine turn off. I drive on 2500-3000rpm and the speed is 50km/k. The engine turns off, the control lamp is turn on. I stop the car, try to start again and its work. The diagnostics show no bugs. The mechanics didn't know what is the problem.

Please help me.

If the light comes on after the engine stops I'd go crank sensor.
