Hi Guys,

I have a 00 1.4 Punto, 2 Door.

The passenger seat has been causing problems, wont more forward or bad, by bottom leaver, or lean forward using the little handle on the top.

My niece decided to push the seat forward and now its just so loose, it just flaps forwards and back now, if i use the seat adjustment winder at the side, it does wind forwards, but it just wont stay in place.

I need to drop it back to the NCT next week (failed emissions test) and im afraid ill fail as the seat is not correctly in place, and if you sit on it, it falls all the way back to the back seat...

Im really hoping that i just need to tighten a screw somewhere, any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

Cheers!

Just to note, this is only the top half of the seat, bottom half is fine.

Hi Shel,

Welcome to the forum. You're not being ignored; there will be lots of folks out there (including me) thinking "I don't really know how to fix that without seeing it first-hand".

There have been a few posts from people with broken seat mechanisms but there's no commonality.

It works with various levers and springs. There is a wire connecting the lever at the top to the base unit - that can break but wouldn't give the looseness you describe (you just wouldn't be able to tilt the back rest).

I had one seat that wouldn't lock onto the runners and that was a bent bracket. However you say that the base of the seat is fine.

If the seat falls all the way back it does suggest a fault in the geared mechanism that controls the rake via the handwheel.

I don't think there is any quick fix - if you are inclined (no pun intended), you could remove the seat to see whether there's anything obviously broken or bent underneath. You could remove the driver's seat to compare notes but be aware that the mechanisms are slightly different (aside of being "handed"). Each seat is secured by four bolts. They seem to vary between standard hex head, hex-socket (Allen key) and Torx (star-shaped).

I'm not familiar with NCT but if that's for an MOT test then I think security of seats is included.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

you'd be best to take the seat out of the car to have a good look at it.

Mine did that a few times, had to push it back with some force to get it to lock into place, it was also wobbling when locked in place & side tilt lever didnt slide the seat forward...

I solved it by taking seat out, then checked the control wires, tightened up the bolts on each side & cleaned out the rails

Some wd40 and reinstalled, works 99% of the time now...

It probably took less than an hour to do, and didnt cost anything

Other option is to go to scrapyard and get a clean 2nd hand seat...
