Hi there,
I have a Punto 1.2 8V 5DR 2004 model
The other day, about 3/4 through a 30 mile journey, the EOBD Light on the dashboard came on, but it didn't flash, or say 'engine failure' on the screen, it just came on permanently, unlike I've read on other threads.
The manual says that this means:
'a fault in the supply/ignition system which could cause high emissions at the exhaust, possible lack of performance, poor handling, and high consumption levels. The warning light goes off if the fault disappears'
It also says you can still drive the car if the light is on, but you should have the fault checked out.
Anyway, I finished the journey, and the next morning I got into the car, and sure enough, the warning light was still on (HUFF). I made a few short journeys that day, and on about the 4th time starting the engine that day, I noticed the light had gone off....
It stayed off for a week or so, so I thought it could have just been a random blip, and forgot about it.
But then last night, it came on again. (also at about the same point in the 30 mile trip!).
The next day, I went to go to work, and as before, the light was still on. It was also still on when I drove home from work at the end of the day.
When I pulled up at home, I turned the ignition off, then on again. Light still on.
I turned it off, then on again, Light still on....
Then I did it one more time, and VOILÀ, its turned off now...
Weird ay?
Anyone else had this problem?
Any ideas as to the cause of this would be much appreciated
Thanks,
Howard
