i have just took my mk2 in to get tracking done, was then told that the drivers side track rod end has seized so could not get tracking done, is this easy to replace, also if some one could find me one on ebay and give me a link to it i would be very greatful, i have no idea what this part looks like, thanks

The following is generic, not specifically Punto.

A track rod end is just a right-angled ball joint. Female thread to attach to the track rod, male thread with tapered shaft to attach to the steering arm on the hub. There is a locknut on the track rod that is tightened against the track rod end and another locknut on the inner end, tightened against the steering rack.

So, to adjust tracking, the locknut at each end of the track rod is slackened and the track rod turned. One end is RH thread, the other is LH, hence effective length gets longer or shorter. Locknuts are tightened. You will need to hold the track rod from turning while undoing/tightening the locknuts. Not sure how anything there could be seized.

Seizure can be an issue when renewing a track rod end. There is a Nyloc or castellated nut (with splitpin) above the tapered bit. Sometimes this is corroded/seized and the ball just spins round. The new trackrod end has a new nut so it doesn't matter if the old one is damaged; sometimes you have to get a hacksaw out or maybe try a blowlamp first. Obviously such "techniques" are not suitable if just dismantling with intent to reassemble.

Note that adjustment has to be the same on both sides of the car or else the steering wheel will not be straight when driving along a straight road (and you would have slightly less lock in one direction).

Track rod ends are quite cheap and easy to fit but of course you will need to have the tracking "professionally" adjusted afterwards to avoid scrubbing the tyres.
