Hi everyone!

Can as many people as poss that know this tell me the 0-60 time in there Punto mk2 Sporting as well as the TOP SPEED? STANDARD! - NO MODS

I am guessing:

Top Speed: 107 mph
0-60 mph :10.50 sec

???????????????????????????????????????????

If you have gone over the limit 70 mph lol, then could you tell me the highest you have gone?

Regards Simon Marshall

anyone?

What is the STANDARD 0-60 mph?
STANDARD Top Speed?

If anyone who hasn't altered their 1.2 Sporting can tell me.
What is the 0-60 you have recorded and YOUR top speed?

Thanx. I am just questioning FIAT's spec.

Thanx Simon

But yours is a MK2.5 :p

I couldn't get mine to do past 110MPh, but my mate got his over the clock a number of times (I was there to validate). But then there are always slight differences between engines!

160mph out of a 1.2 16v?! Indicated or otherwise, not a chance. It would have met its friend the rev limiter a long time before that speed and to even reach the rev limiter in 6th (they are 6 speed right?) you would need a nice long hill....

Tis true!! I can get to just shy of 120mph - And that's pushing it! Been GPS'd too. 120 out of a 1.4 ain't bad!

Again - Very true! Well, not strictly true - A bike with a lot smaller capacity that 1200cc will top 160mph no dramas!

Well ok, I should have said "from a car :p"

I expect you could probably get a 1.2 to 160mph with £20k+ of modifications though.

SOrry for misunderstanding, I thought it was shown that the clocks went up to 160mph, not 120mph.

I've had 117mph out of mine before parts went on,since then i can clock speedo on flat quite easily,do tend to find that the car really struggles to put any speed on uphill. (y)

Lads, as mentioned elsewhere, unless a GPS or a speed camera verifies the speed, you can't confirm how fast you were travelling.

Again, and as stated in a previous post, the fastest my 1.2 sporting will go as per the GPS, in 6th at 6500rpm, downhill, only me in the car, on a motorway, is 107 mph (which also happens to be the manufacturers top speed, and I'm sure they didn't just pluck that figure out of thin air).

Oh, and at this point, the speedo was almost off the clock, somewhere around 120 or so.

That gives it gearing of 16.46mph per 1000rpm in 6th. That can't be right

I thought the Sporting was geared for about 20-21mph per 1000rpm in 6th. This sounds more like 5th gear?

Not disagreeing with the top speed, but 6500rpm and 107mph doesn't sound right.

If you give me the ratios, final drive and tyre dimensions I will tell you :)

Finding info on the Mk2 1.2 16v Sporting is like finding rocking-horse s**t. Anyway, here goes:

Final Drive: 4.071

6th gear: 0.766:1

Tyres: 185/55 R15.

Strangely, this means the 1.2 16v Sporting and 1.4 16v Sporting have the same stats

How do you work it out, Negotiator? I have always been interested (y)

on my old Sporting I tried and tried to get above 110mph, wouldn't go tho. Max was 110mph.

even down-hill, wouldn't budge.

On MK2's:
0-60mph - 10.9secs
Top Speed - 107mph

Hang on, let me take that one back (and remember that over 100, Punto's shake like crazy, so I was spending more time looking at the road and the GPS set to record the maximum speed.

Check this photo by our man in Germany https://www.fiatforum.com/showpost.php?p=289865&postcount=10

That's 200 km/h (120 mph) on the speedo at 5500 rpm. That would give the Punto gearing of 19.45 per 1000rpm in 6th. So if I correct my statement from 6500 to 5500, it should be about right.

Man, if the coppers ever saw this thread... lucky I was doing 107 in England and I have an Irish licence LOL.

Firstly it's a fairly long calculation which is fairly simple but long, you consider one turn of the engine, which using the gear ration gives you x turn(s) of the gearbox, this is then transmitted to the final drive y turn(s). Hence you know how many times the wheel turns for a revolution of the engine.

Each revolution means you travel the circumference of the tyre (work out using tyre stats) and hence you know how far the car goes for 1RPM. Now it's a matter of a bit more manipulation in terms of times and you have your result.

However, it's 10x easier to you use the fantastic website I found:

http://www.race-technology.com/WebPage/Utilities/GearCalculations/GearCalculation.html

SUggests 21mph/1000RPM in 6th, so on limited at 137mph....

However, I haven't got any evidence to know whether the data on that site is correct.
