on puntos with abs do they have wiring from the abs console to the speedometer or does the abs console send a signal with no wiring?

I am fitting abs to my punto which it needs to get the speedo working, I have the abs console with the wiring loom connecting to it and the hubs and carriers which come with the brakes and not sure what else i need to get my speedo working.

ABS ECU takes its speed signal from the speedo sensor.

Cheers

yeh and the speed sensors on a abs model are located on the brake hubs but what im not sure about is the part from the abs ECU/Console to the speedometer, is it connected to the speedometer gauge with wiring or is the speed reading sent to the speedometer gauge by signal???

my question still hasnt been answered lol how is the speedometer (connected ) to the abs system??

is it one of the wires connected to the back of the instrument dials?? because theres one plug that goes into the instrument dials with lots of wires, and that wiring loom is not the same one connected to the abs computer

basically if u look at the back of a hgt speedometer/instrument gauge which one of the many wires is the speedo wire?

re-read post #5 its on the CAN system.

ok thanks,, ive bought an aftermarket speedometer with a small wire which u connct to the original speedo wire, how would i find out which one of the wires is the speedo wire?

you cant as its on the CAN network!

Lets start again.....do you have a speed sensor with 3 wires coming from it at back of engine. Also year/model of car?

im new to doing up cars if u havnt already worked out! i had a sporting 2000 with no abs right. ive had a hgt engine etc put in it, the hgt is a 2001 with abs as they have so theres no speed sensor on the gearbox, it has sensors on the brake hubs which i need to get new sensors and the wiring to the abs computer cos i ruined the last lot on the hgt doner car, then ill connect it all up to get speedo working hopefully.

so its now a hgt all wiring looms under the bonnet have been swapped.

looks like ill have to send the aftermarket speedo back??

ahh now we get the whole story lol.....right the CAN network is a series of digits (0 and 1's in other words binary) so I fear that unless you have an interface the speedo will be useless. However if the wiring and cluster is from the HGT then it should be possible.

ahh right which wiring and cluster from the hgt do ya mean

the wire on the aftermarket speedo is for the vss which im guessing is the vehicle speed sensor, so do u recon i could extend it and connect it to one of the sensors at the wheels?

No.

You can fit the digital HGT speedo, but not an anologue aftermarket one.

Cheers

its a digital aftermarket one with 3 wires, one goes to earth one goes to power of sum sort and the other is VSS which is for the vehicle speed sensor??

and im not replacing the hgt speedo ill still have that connected up working im having the aftermarket one aswell

and just needing to know if i can connect the vss wire to the abs sensors

No. The signals aren't compatible.

Like I have said before, if you've got the HGT cluster and ABS ECU/pump assembly with all the sensors, the easiest option is to swap the complete vehicle harness over, along with the dash loom and engine bay loom. About a day's work and you'll have a properly working cluster.

If you've already bought the aftermarket speedo, you could source a compatible speed sensor for the HGT 'box, wire in a feed and earth, then run the signal wire to your speedo. It might work.
