Should i replace the Cam Belt?

Last week my 2004 1.2 8v Punto had a service and passed MOT. The garage asked whether i had replaced the Cam belt as it was due to be done as now passed 72,000 miles. I havent changed it (bought car year ago) and i dont think the previous owner has either.
Does it have to be changed at this point or is that just an advisory? Is it worth taking the risk of leaving it for a bit?

Re: Should i replace the Cam Belt?

its 6 years old, its gone past time to change it, its a safe engine so if it does go no damage will happen, but winter is nearly here better to get it done rather than end up stranded some where on a cold dark nigh waiting for recovery truck

Re: Should i replace the Cam Belt?

Just had mine done at 56000 miles including new tensioner and water pump.....just in case.....

Mine is a 2002 Sporting though and costs alot more to repair if the belt does go...
