Hi,
had a nct (mot) fail due to a missing brake compensator rod/lever recently. The valve itself is fine (not seized) and the mount on the rear axle is fine.
anyway to cut a long story short I finally got the replacement part, could only find new item from main dealer as not all models/years seem to have this arrangement. the rod is adjustible in length with a spring at one end. the main dealer reckons it is preset but it obviously is not as it wont fit as is (adjusted to its shortest length).

Has anyone an idea of the procedure for setup ('04, 1.2, 3dr punto) ?

I have seen for other models where 55kg is placed in the boot and the lenght set at that

Thanks
Cir

Did you check the push-rod length with the car on jacks and wheels on full drop.

the rod in its shortest setting is far to short for the suspension at full droop. If it was installed at the dealer stated length it would just snap something if the car was ever jacked up.
but to answer the question, I jacked up the car, put stands under the lower shock mounts and lowered the car onto the stands so ride height would be normal. dealer setting is still way off.

It looks like they can only have sold the wrong part.

the part is correct, the rod can be set at a length up to about 50mm behond what it was set at. I can get it to fit but theres little point in fitting it so that it doesnt operate correctly. I need to know the correct length to set it at.

does anyone have access to a workshop manual ?

Anyone know where I can get the spring loaded rod from, Richard Hardie FIAT wanted £250, but at least for that they threw in a new compensator valve....

Ouch 8 year old thread revival....

So youve lost the spring that gies from the axle to compensator
Id be looking at scrappies tbh...

Them pipes tho will be pretty ****ty tho....

Good luck...

No still got everything, the spring has no preload left (it rattles!) and the adjustment is, well, history, it's so badly rusted it will never move. I got round this short term by grinding down the diameter of the adjustable bit enought to get a nut over it and then I welded it in position - not great but makes the brakes functional and it passed its MoT this morning.
I've been offered one from a breaker for £25 so I may well got that route for a permanent fix.
I'm surprised that something that isn't actually mechanically fixed to another component isn't available as a part though
As an aside, I go an advisory for a loose cooling fan. I thought it would be one of the brackets holding it onto the radiator, but it turns out the blades are no longer connected to the motor!!!

Ive seen the fan thing before

The little bar that goes through the motor snaps so the fan has no keyway to spin with

Pop the end clip off
Wrestle fan off
Find thinnest bolt u can and grind it down till it fits :)

The fan shud spin at correct speed with motor but depending how shagged the fan is depends how sloppy it csn be too...
