Hey All, I have a mark 2 Punto 1.9 JTD, for the past few weeks i have had issues with the power steering, that the red light comes on and the steering goes heavy, but when you turn the car off and turn it back on again it goes off. I have read on this forum that this problem could be due to an aging battery but my battery was just replaced. I have taken it into the shop and due to computer problems they were unable to find the problem the other day. However to go along with this i have been having a weird problem with the brake lights, in specific the passenger side rear brake lights and turn signal. When you activate the turn signal and step on the brake the signal blinks really fast while you are in the car, from the out side the top two lights also blink too. To add to this when you turn left and step on the brakes, the right brake light blinks, but not very strongly. I have take the right housing off, and the bottom contact on the housing looks funny like the plastic around the contact is melted, i checked the fuses and everything seems ok, any body have any advice for me?

Thank you in advance

Earth fault with your rear lights and check the new battery is as strong as it should be and if it was brand new.
Also check the battery terminals and earth cable - make sure they are all clean and a secure connection (y)

Hi mate, I had the same problem with the power steering, when it happens again turn the car off and then open the bonnet and disconnect the battery and then reconnect it after a minute or so... This has solved my problem,

Good luck!

Agreed. The light interaction on the rear cluster is nowt to do with the steering issues.

Could be an alternator issue not charging the battery properly if the battery replacement hasn't solved the steering issue.
