Hi guys i recently replaced the headgasket on my punto 1.2 8v 1999 as, and after bleeding her and running her to full temp im still loosing quite a bit of coolant. I have replaced water pump and thermostat which has a minor leak upon pressurising and replaced all gaskets etc. Flushed my rad and checked the reservoir and hoses. One thing i did notice yesterday is the heater was not running hot.

Also my fan is not cutting in, i have checked the motor and thas fine so gonna check wiring loom and then maybe sensor is the rad.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Cheers

Hmm i would have said the water pump as ive just had mine fixed though the problem couldnt be seen until the car was on running for like 45 mins. Apart from that check the loom and the sensor as you said and report back.

Bubbles blowing over the vent pipe into the coolant tank show the new gasket hasnt
worked. If in doubt a coolant chemical test for exhaust gasses will prove it.

Has coolant bled properly? The cold heater suggests maybe not.

Bleed it with engine stopped and also disconnect a small hose from the thermostat housing to let any air escape while topping up.

If coolant level still dropping you have a leak somewhere else (rad, core plug, ??, etc). Maybe thats what took out the head gasket first time around.

Ok i have now bled the system properly and had the rad checked and all is good. Heater works again now which is a good sign and all the hoeses get hot and the fan now kicks in again.

All in al hopefully a success just got to let it cool and check later.

Fingers crossed.

Cheers
