Hi Guys,

I'm after some advice, I have an 1.2 Punto Active Sport 16v (2005).

The problem I'm having is the car seems to have lost power somwhere, general driving I just don't seem to have that 'kick' that it used to have.

The problem is most notable when I start driving in the morning from the engine being cold, and I'm accelerating from 1st gear the car gets to around 2,000 rev's and then I get the feeling its holding back, it feels like it just doesn't want to go above 2,000 rev's although it probably would if I really pushed it.

Now I had a very similar problem last year, Last year the car also lost power, and when accelerating there was no power and when I pushed it a bit the car would misfire, like a juddering effect, the engine warning light would flash and I would have to drop back to first and set off for it get back to normal.

I replaced the spark plugs and the coils and this seem to fix the problem, but this was only 9 months ago if not much less than that.

I have not had the Engine warning light flash, or the skipping effect happen to me since my loss of power this time around, but that may be due to when I can feel it being restrictive, I back off the accelerator instead of pushing it further, If i was to carry on accelerating when It is 'holding back' then I wouldn't be suprised if the same results happened as what used to happen.

As i said, the problem is quite difficult to explain, its one of those things that would be better understood once you have driven the car yourself, but the essential bit is that it has lost power, and general driving around when accelerating its just as if its running on half the power.

Hopefully someone can understand some of what i've described to try and point me in the right direction.

Cheers

Yeahh i agree erm also what you could do i had this problem with my old mk1 i changed the throttle body and changed the cat and lambda sensor, coils, plugs, leads and it sorted it when was the last time you give it a good service?

Hi, I'm having very similiar problems with my 1.2 16v punto (2001). It's the auto version with the CVT gearbox. Generally runs fine in warm weather, but whenever it is damp and cold it won't rev above about 3000rpm when in gear. It stutters and judders and the speed of my car does not increase. Sounds like it is misfiring on one cylinder at least. When it was really wet a few days ago idling was really rough, whole car was shaking, think it was down to being a 2 cylinder punto at that point. Bought a Haynes manual and had a poke around myself, found one of the HT leads was not properly pushed on to the top of a spark plug. Thought I had solved the problem at first but driving back in torrential rain today the same thing kept happening. Engine warning light comes on if the problem is persistent but usually clears quickly. Hope it is nothing serious as I have only owned the car about 6 weeks!

I'm a Complete noob on this forum and I can't figure out how to start a new thread for my problem! Sorry. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
