Water ingress is notoriously hard to track down. My wife's last car, a Subaru Justy developed a severe leak into the passenger footwell which I just couldn't find. I had all the carpets out (to get them dry) and still couldn't find the leak. Eventually, with the aid of my son and a hose, I spotted a trickle of water running out from under the passenger door trim onto the inner sill. If I hadn't had the carpets and sill trims out I'd never have spotted it.
The reason for the leak was that the plastic sheet which seals the inside of the door panel had come away for about 1/2 an inch at the bottom so that when it rained, instead of being deflected into the door and running out the drains at the bottom, water was leaking out the bottom of the plastic seal and running down behind the door trim, from there down behind the sill trim and into the footwell.
The leak in your car may be for an entirely different reason, especially since it is a Fiat and not a Subaru, but you never know.

duno if it'll be same prob, but on an old uno i had, the heater control valve leaked and allowed coolant to drip onto the carpets. try checking all round the cars heater pipes.

yes it happens now and agin after heavy rain, the waters clear and odourless and the carpet underlay is wet going up towards the dash,so i dont think its the door seal.i have read it could be coming in the corner near the bonnet hinges!

Hi,

Not sure if you fixed your leak, but if you have air conditioning it is likely to be the pipe which takes the condensation from the system to a drain outside. If you look under the bonnet on the passenger side just above the steering rack you will see a black rubber pipe going through the bulkhead. This is the drain from the air con. Apprently they are a little short and the water leaks back into the passenger foot well (but it might spread to drivers side as well). It was fixed under warranty by our local dealer.

If you look inside the car, the pipe comes out of the pollen filter box and if you switch on the air con, you can see (or feel) it dripping after a couple of minutes.
