Hi,
Had my front discs / pads replaced two months ago. On the front wheels, they are covered in some sort of grime.. which I think is brake dust. As the rear ones are still spotless.

Just wondering if it's likely to be brake dust.

Is this a bad thing ?

Cheers.

Nothing to worry about, approximately 80% of the braking is done by the front wheels, and so they are bound to pick up most of the dust. On the 8v Mia, you should have drum brakes at the rear which make a much better job of keeping the brake dust off your alloys than discs.

Cillit Bang cleans it off and being acidic is safe on aluminium alloy. Caustic cleaners (containing caustic soda - NaOh - sodium hydroxide) are not good on aluminium.

Rear drums trap the brake powder so should to be cleaned out on every service.
