has anybody got any idea what could be the cause of the following,

my daughter has a punto 1200cc 8 valve 1998.it keeps loosing power when its driven ,the rev counter flies up and down irratically and even with your foot flat on the floor the revs drop really low,the car "bunny hops" then it all returns to normal again.you can drive for a good while with all o.k then it starts playing up,i took it to a garage they could not find a problem.it is single point injection, have changed all the obvious bits, plugs, filter(air)lt leads
nothing looks broken from the outside .i would welcome any suggestions you may have thanks

I think this is a problem with the injection coil may be not all the cylinders are getting ignited this you can check easliy by plugging and unplugging cylinder plugs one by one .Also check whether the display is showing any warning symbols .

Or ther is a chance of particle clogging in the fuel injection system because of particulated diesel or petrol

I think it is because of the faulty injection coil only
thanks

Also worth checking out the mass air flow (MAF) sensor.

Devil's advocate for a moment - with the revs going up and down could it be clutch slipping. I mean something like the slave cylinder sticking and jamming the clutch
