Bought a 2001 mk2 Punto about 6 weeks ago, decided to clean the spark plugs(which were filthy) Anyway cleaned them up, put it all back together, then started it... but was juddering like a misfire... re checked all the plugs n ht leads.. n now have oil on the plugs?? Restarted it and did the same thing... But now it won't start atall, it tries but wont start. Checked the fuses none blown, no trapped wires etc... any ideas??

Oil on the plugs after only running the engine for a few minutes? That aint good.

What prompted you to have a look at the spark plugs? Were you having engine trouble already?

It could be headgasket failure; I don't even think the rings could leak enough oil past them to get oily after a few minutes.

Have you checked the oil isn't coming from the rocker cover and tricking down on to the spark plugs?

Not having engine trouble just decided to - I do it every now and again, did my audi before i done the mrs's punto, the audi's fine n the mrs aint impressed that her beloved punto won't start.

I'll have a look at rocker cover to see if thats where the oils coming from n let u know

Thanks

Does the OP mean oil on the plug electrodes or oil on the outside of #1 plug. The latter can get covered in oil when filling the sump.

It was running before the plugs were taken out, maybe the plug leads got damaged when they were pulled off the plugs.

ok so, my fella charged the battery aswe flattened it trying to start the car... changed the rocker cover gasket... as there was a small leak (pressume thats where the oil came from) changed spark plugs and ht leads. It now starts... but is juddering it's balls off so to speak, has no power atall... can't get it over 30 mph, think it's overheating slightly... but i'm a bird n have no idea really.

Any ideas any1?
