hi can anyone help me! i just got a 2001 punto of someone on ebay and was driving home when a amber engine warning light come on the dashboard. anyone have any idea as to what it could be and is it safe to drive?

how long since last service?

thanks. the stupid husband got the car on wed and its only had the mot cerf with it no service history so i really dont know.
i hope its just something simple like a sensor!

Is the car driving fine? If so it's most likely a dirty sensor. I had engine management light come on for 2 weeks, drove fine. Then went off again! Was never seen again after that

First job is to get the car properly serviced. New oil, new coolant (dont skimp on coolant), brakes and suspension checked out, etc, etc. If its a 16V the cam belt needs to be changed. They are inconvenient on an 8V but cause very expensive damage on a 16V.
