What is a 1.2 16v engine worth? I've just removed it from my 1998 85 ELX as it failed its MOT on shocks and a fair bit of welding.. I've just bought another 98, this time a 16v Sporting which needs a gearbox & clutch, so the old box & a new clutch will keep that one going for another year hopefully. But how much is the engine worth? It had a cambelt, tensioner & waterpump about 2,000 miles ago, and its covered 70k.

I you have somewhere to store it I would look at keeping it a spare as they are harder to come by than the 8v.If you do then remeber to turn it over every now and then just to keep everything free.
If you decide to sell it, it should fetch around £100-150 as you cannot offer a guarentee as most breakers can.

Dont bother keeping it as a spare as above just stick it on ebay with a reasonable reserve loads of people want the 16v engine.

Start it at £50 and dont bother with a reserve. Lots of folk wont bid when there is a reserve price. Have another auction for the ECU and locks and another for the alternator. and another for the injection and inlet manifold.

These engines are getting hard to find (I cant say much I have 7 of them ) but just as a guide a cylinder head for one was sold for €250.... And the engine youve taken out has the bigger oil filter :) however this particular engine is a curse to fit in a newer Punto (as I found out when fitting a 97 engine to a mk2 Punto) If theres enough interest in parts like the block and head dont be afraid to break it up and sell it that way

depends who wants it an how far they are from where you live, get 2 bidders on ebay who both live near enough to collect it and you get good money, if no one wants one near where you live then you wont get good money. ive know people to get them off ebay for less that 100 with a gearbox and all the other bits still on it

I actually work for a breaker, we only do Alfa though, so as you say I cannot offer a guarantee (as I don't have another one). I think I will bang it on ebay, I'd be happy with £150 for it.

The rest of the car has gone to the scrapper now, there was no room for me to store it otherwise I would have properly broken it for spares.

It got a good trashing though before it went (not by me!)
