Hi there,
First time on here but I have come to the end of my tether with my car :-( She is an '03 Punto 1.9 and is normaly fantastic BUT in 2007 she began chocking about once every 8 months (ish) this has gradually got more frequent and so far this year has done it in March, April and now today (In Manchester airport) the jorney distance and type of road traveled before hand has been varied.
Symptoms:
- Parked in a car park, usually been supermarket or today at airport but was once on a quiet industrial estate.
- Get in car and turn key, starts first time as always then by the time I have reversed half out of the parking bay it starts to choke and then no matter what I do - foot hard to floor, foot off excelerator - she then just dies.
- I can try and start her again and to begin with it will tick over and do the same but after another go all you hear is the noise when you turn the key for too long.
- no warning lights come on at all.
- Each time I have phoned RAC and they have taken about 2 hours - by the time they come she starts first time and nothing shows up on the computer...
- When she starts the exhaust fumes are black and sooty.

I left her for 30 mins today and tried and she started - thankfully!

No garage or RAC man can offer any advice. some RAC men have thought that it could be the immobiliser getting confused with all the interferance from electrical stuff in the shops beside where I have parked (bit Sci Fi for me!)
Can anyone shed any light on this as I really don't want to sell my car but I also can't have one which is getting more and more unreliable.
Thank you all sooo much! Xgem

Talking from very limited knowledge and experience but.. Have known of a similar problem and it turned out to be the injectors (May need cleaned or replaced). Car would start up fine when it had been sitting for a while and was cold but as soon as it warmed up for whatever reason it just completely gave up.

Not very helpful I know and I may be way off, but is something to possibly look into or someone else on here with a bit more knowledge then me to expand on ? (y)

Cheers

That's crap from the RAC guys. Give the throttle body a clean out and see if that helps. Sounds like just loads of crap in the engine.

Have the timing checked aswell (y)

1.9 assume its a diesel

Check the engine stop solenoid and check the fuel filter isn't blocked. Also check the fuel lift pump is working.
