I'm wondering about resetting my ECU as I've just got a BMC CDA air filter, i've read that you disconnect the battery, then wait a bit and then give your car some 'stick' to register that it has a better air flow??

i'm wondering if this actually works...?

i've heard something about the lambda in the engine or exhaust that adjusts it anyway giving a 1:1 injection of fuel into the exhaust. Therefore over riding the ECU.

Is this true??

Thanks

Oh i thought you were supposed to rag it, so driving it normally should register the better airflow?

no disconnect the battery for 30-45mins.
reconnect battery
switch on
leave at idle for 5 mins
switch off
switch on again and then go for a drive
make sure the engine is warm before your drive it hard, but this should be progressive not wheelspinning off the driveway....

it will take a few hundred miles for it to register the new values...

Thanks for the info.

Should be easy to clock up those miles, I do 60 miles a day.

Thanks

if this helps, i dont know but............... my last car was a cavalier v6....... once in a while i used to let it almost run out of petrol, put a tenners worth of optimax or bp ultimate in.......... disconnect the battery overnight, then give it some stick the following day driving to work ( i have a 30 mile drive to work, at 6am......... even though you cant thrash a cav v6 for too long, as they are capable of hitting twice the mway speed limit with a gear left quite quickly......), and it definately ran significantly crisper. As long as i didnt put morrisons petrol in, it seemed to keep its 'remapped' setttigns for quitea few months......... I dont know if this will help you as i dont know too much about fiat systems, but if others can input on this, and if, like my old v6, the engine management is self learning, then it may help
