Hi, I looking to sell my 54 Reg 1.2 8v Active Sport, as I have just got a company car. It has got ABS, as well as an alarm and remote central locking. The car itself is in very good condition, and has done about 7000 miles. I know I'm going to lose a mint, but I need to get rid of it....

Thanks

Well a brand new one is £8,495.00 OTR so maybe £3000ish less? Value around £5000 maybe?

I don't really know to be honest!

My only experience is that I bought a 6 month old 53reg Sporting with 600 miles on the clock for £2000 below list, so from that argument I've conjoured £3000 below list out of the air! :)

My Punto also has ABS (Which wasn't standard at the time) And it also has remote central locking and an alarm (Which was fitted after I brought it)
I think the car should be worth about £6500 because it's also 6 months younger than the one in that price guide. I hope anyway.........

Personally I think you're dreaming?

6 month old punto 1.2 8v (basic spec) were selling with 6k on the clock for 4.7k at the car supermarket near me in the past.

Right now the most reliable car valuator seems to be through autotrader/whatcar...sadly they don't seem to cover your model or any puntos post 2003?!

Well put mate, such a way with words :) No harm in dreaming eh?

Sorry, I am always honest if possible and I only used your word "dreaming".

And no, no harm in dreaming BUT it may mean you waste your time?

No problem mate, just having a giggle. I would like to get £6500 for it, but if I don't I'll just keep it. Got quite a good deal on it in the first place, so at least the loss of money won't be as great as some poor buggers......

Hate to worry you but you can get a brand new Active Sport 8V for £6,369.00 with ABS from www.autoebid.com. This is supplied direct by a Fiat dealer in the UK.
I think you will be lucky to get £4,500-£5K max, but private sale would get you more. Mind you if you think thats bad, our Ulysse list price £24K+ is now worth about £13K after 16 months. We did get a good discount but it is still about £6K depreciation.

Oh well, looks like I'm stuck with it. Now all I need to do is to find a good dealership, so they can put it back together for me........This will be the first and last Fiat I'll buy.

If you fancy a bit of comparing, the corsa basic model:

1.0 12V Design 3d 03 £9625 £9150 £3290

rrp/usual sale price/3 year price

Punto:

1.2 Active 3d 03 £7595 £7150 £2862

Do the maths....the punto depriciates less than the corsa in percentage terms!

Also Fiat are well known for giving big discounts, so the list price is never the price you pay. On average you can get at least 15%-20% off a Fiat. This means the depreciation is a lot lower in real money.

On the Punto Speedgear we bought new in 2001 direct from a Fiat main dealer we got 20% off and on the Ulysse we bought at the end of 2003 we got approx 20% off going through a broker, although the car was delivered by a Fiat UK main dealer and all the paperwork was from the Fiat dealer.

I think that a lot of the motoring magazines don't highlight this when they compare actual costs.

I would have added that too but had to get to lectures.

It's like the scenic we looked at, 12.8k or so for the same model sold by Renault UK at 17.5K! Car had come here direct from France etc.

Not all manufacturers can be got around like this hence difficulty for comparisons. Puntos do depriciation a lot better than some think.
