wondering if any1 can help - will be much appreciated

I have fiat punto 1.2 ELX speadgear 2000.
2 days ago the red light for power steering failure came on and has been on since. I managed to drive it but it's really heavy to drive, especially to park when slow.

does anyone have any idea what's wrong with it? any ideas on how to get it fixed and how much it's gonna cost?

I phoned my local fiat garage and he said the whole steering system may need replacing and can cost upto $800. thats quite a lot of money and i was jus wondering if this has happened to any1 else and what they did to get it correct the problem.

is fluid level ok?
its an electric power steering pump so there must be fuses and wires to check as well

yeah check simple things like the fuse first. that price sounds bit high to me surely thay can just replace the electric motor unit

the fuse was the 1st thing we checked - that's fine. Any idea how it would cost to replace the electric motor unit?
