Hi everyone, I have a mk1 60s fiat punto and have issues with the car pulling to one side. I have had the tracking done (the proper 4 wheel alignment) a few times now and have been told by multiple garages the tracking is correct. I have checked the tyre pressures and all are correct. Could it be the steering wheel is simply not correctly aligned? If so can this be done at home and how? All comments and suggestions appreciated.

Could be something more serious, like the steering rack is damaged?

It might be, although i hope not, im going to have a look later today. Currently i have on/ off rain so will open up and have a look (honestly im not sure what to be looking for, but that’s never stopped me trying ;)).

All suggestions welcome or pointers in what to look for appreciated.

Well hopefully it won't be steering because it's not very cheap to get it repaired! If you say you have took it get it tracked a few times before the tracker people should of spotted the problem and told you, if it was obvious enough. Best thing to do is go to a tyre and exhaust place and get them look over it,there better eqquiped for that job than mechanics!

finger crossed nothing to serious! :worship:

My car does this, had tracking done, replaced back brakes and the only time it was cured is when I put steelies on instead of my alloys, put alloys back on and it pulls again :S

I haven't changed from my original plastic covers so i dont think it will be anything along those lines.

I have looked around all the steering and everything looked ok (that i could see). Apart from one thing that seemed off to me.

The picture attached shows how the rod from the steering wheel connects to the interior floor of the car to the linkages under the bonnet. After driving down and reversing back up my street (with odd looks from my nabours) i found the angel of the steering wheel which made the car travel straight and noticed that the joint in the pic is not straight (which i guess it would be in normal circumstances where the steering wheel and car are straight). Does this mean that this linkage, or some other connected linkage can be adjusted??

Again thanks for all and any help.

thats just a cv joint. Have you checked your rear wheels as trailing arm bearing might have failed. easy way to check, jack the back of the car up and push and pull at the wheel to see if it moves in and out, if it does replace the arm.

ooo i have never considered it might be the back wheels i will check it out and let you know what i find.

I know one of the back wheels has nothing abnormal to it as i replaced the hand brake cable on that side last week.

well both the back wheels seem to be fine and didnt move in and out.

Any more ideas anyone?
