I know this has been discussed before because I've searched the forums and read up, but am not totally sure on all the details. But if we could just compile a final, definitive guide here for me and future posters asking this common question.

So I have a new shape punto, with a standard cassette player. I want to replace this with a Kenwood KDC7024 (cheapest I've found is £199.99 at Car Audio Direct).

Firstly, I've read about some tools to remove the existing radio, some sort of prongs to slip down each side? I've looked in Halfords but couldn't find them, probably because I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Any directions on using them when I get them?

Next, I've seen the replacement dash face in Halfords for £12.99, I assume this would be correct, and simple to fit?

I don't really want to have to hire anyone to fit it for me, and from what I've read the punto should be a pretty easy install with a simple block of wires, or atleast easy enough to work out for myself?

Any other particular tips or useful info I should be aware of when attempting this change?

Thanks for any replies.

The removal tools are "U" shaped bits of wire, they do sell em in Halfords, Just ask for them, they cost about £3.
The Stereo surround just slots in place and is very easy to fit.
When you unplug the old stereo the connector will fit directly into the new stereo.
You need to remove the metal cage that the old stereo was sitting in and replace it with the new stereos one. Once in you need to bend the tabs down to hold the cage in place. Once done you slide the new stereo in.
Job done.

The replacement dash is easy to fit, but my local fiat garage sold me mine for only £10.

I just got my `02 Punto and I am gonna do the same thing. Fiat dealer told me that the universal replacement face panel is £9 and I would imagine its universal connectors at the back. I have been scanning for speaker posts coz I have no rear speakers. I think the best way is to get a proper acoustic shelf done and dont cut corners so as to ruin what u might sell later on. I was told £150 for a shelf but my my mate does them for £40 coz his pops is a carpenter and he says the wood used is well cheap. Don't get rogered over the price. ;) sorry I digress

Let me know how it goes

Did you have the fish? No...I ate it.

Car Audio Direct also sell the punto fascia for about a tenner.

the descent into insanity continues unabated

I hope you have more joy than i did fitting a new stereo. I just fitted the Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB radio and the wiring on the so called industry standard ISO connector was all wrong for this radio. It took a phone call to Blaupunkt to sort out the problem, they said that Fiats power lead was different to any others. Good luck anyway.

Not really, the Fiat has a constant live whereas most other cars have an ignition reliant live. Just cut the live and join it to the orange wire under the steering wheel if you wanted to.

I just used an old metl coat hanger, cut it bent it into a u shape pushed it into the 2 slots either side and pulled it out it popped pusehd in the new facia panel plugged the iso connectors to it and slipped my new sony cd player in turned it on and hey presto it was done, i have also fitted a JVC cd player into my girlfriends car took all of about 5 minutes.

The devil made me do it officer
