I just bought my first car, I'm 18, Fiat Punto new shape Y reg, 1.2 Active I think. But it's only got the standard black bumpers... how much would it cost to have colour coded bumpers fitted? And would a fiat dealer be able to do this? The brochure quotes the Abarth bumpers at about £220 each, so hopefully standard bumpers should be cheaper? No chance of the Abarth or any other body kit as I can't stand them.

Also, will I have to inform my insurance company of this, as I would assume the insurance would go up a bit? Any idea rougly how much?

Thanks for any answers,

(It's red btw)

I wouldn't have thought you would have to tell your insurance company, as they are bumpers that come as standard on a lot of Punto's, and there is nothing aerodynamic about them that would class as being a body kit or anything.

Fitting bumpers yourself is very easy, about 10 bolts and thats it so you can do it yourself without jacking the car up.
DON@T spray the original bumpers, the plastic they use is textured and isn't as flexible as the other type. Puntos don't really have too many colours, you best bet is to find a scrappy that will sell you correct coloured bumpers. This will save on the price of the bumper and spraying.

You really only need to tell your insurance if it is an unstandard body part as this would (apparently) make the car more desirable and in a higher risk of being nicked.
You will be fine not telling them.

Am in similar situation, but I'm only looking for a front bumper for a 5dr MK2 in dark blue, if I get hold of a 2nd hand bumper, how difficult are they to respray (& how costly?)

Shouldn't really cost much more than £120 to have it resprayed. Ask around scrappies.
There are a few Irish Mk2 Punto owners on www.puntoforum.co.uk maybe they could help you out.

Thanks Evil-Punto, but I've managed to pick up a second hand one from a breakers today for €70. Only thing is that it had a couple of light scratches & scuffs so I'm wondering if there's any paint or polish on the market that could help get rid of them.

The problem with bumpers is they have a thick layer of plastic laquer over the paint so normal scratch remove won't touch it. Look for a garage that will refurbish them.

Thanks again, might take a look for a garage as theres a couple of small scuffs on the car, could probably get them all done together.
