Hello,

I am having a problem with the passenger side electrical window on my Mk2 Punto.

The car is LHD so the problematic window is the one on the driver's side for RHD cars.

Anyway, here goes: the window won't move.

Any help? :p

(just kidding)

Some time ago (about 3-4 years back) the window stopped working while half-open. I took it to my garage (I had just gotten my driver's license so I was still afraid to do things on my own) where they fixed the problem and told me that the cause was the connector inside the centre console.

About a year later the same thing happened, but since I knew what the problem was I tried to fix it. All I had to do was unscrew the centre console and fiddle with the connector, and the window came back to life.

The problem appeared again about 3-4 months ago but I didn't have time to bother so I let it be for a while. So I started looking into the problem these days but I wasn't able to fix it up to now.

I first disconnected the connector that is on the back of the centre console, cleaned it and put it back, but nothing changed.

The window motor is OK, since I took the door apart and connected 12V to the window motor and it worked properly.
The window motor, however, only gets 6 volts, so the problem is somewhere else. I checked the cables (with an Ohm-meter) that go from the switch to the motor but did not find a problem there.

As a result, the problem must be caused by the switch. I suppose something is not working properly and is causing a voltage drop.

Has anyone had a similar problem? I looked through the forums (and tried whatever I found) but the problem is still there.

What can I do to find out if I can fix the problem myself (e.g. bad soldering)?

I will take another look at the cables that go from the switch to the window motor and maybe try to connect 12V to the connector behind the centre console in order to verify the voltage drop is not caused by some problematic wire, but it is a bit fiddly and I would prefer to avoid that, if possible.

Thank you,
Pavlos

P.S. sorry for any broken English...!

P.S.2 forgot to say, neither the 'up' switch nor the 'down' switch work, lights don't dim, nothing. I suppose due to the voltage drop, the window motor must have some threshold voltage under which it doesn't work. However, it confuses me that both 'up' and 'down' switches give a voltage of +-6V instead of +-12V.

OK so I got the problem fixed.

I tested all the connections on the PCB with the switches as well as the wiring to the door but couldn't find anything wrong. So I noticed that one of the pins on the switch board was a bit darker than the others. I scratched it a bit with a screwdriver in order to clean it, since contact spray hadn't helped before, and also bent it a bit to ensure it makes good contact.

Problem solved, window works fine now...

Thanks for the answers!

Cheers!

Thanks Cobra(y)

Took me 10 min, in minus 4c, to fix on my Punto, due to your solution on the problem. Had miscoulored connectors. Cleaned them up, and things are Working again :)
